My sister and I created a traveling print demonstration that let visitors get their hands in some ink.

We started collecting letterpress equipment during the six summers we spent as volunteer demonstrators in Canterbury Shaker Village’s Printshop. In the corner we had a tabletop press on which we taught visitors to set their names in lead type and print them on a “business” card.

Twice we were invited to be part of a Shaker craft demonstration tent at the Annual League of NH Craftsmen Fair in Sunapee, NH.

It was surprisingly easy to pack up the equipment and take this show on the road. All we needed was a type drawer, the press, and a box of ink and typesetting supplies.

We also did demonstrations at Auburn Day in Auburn, NH, The Barnes & Noble Maker Fair in Manchester, NH, and we even helped a local girl scout group get a badge.
